Medina al-zahra or "the shining city" are the ruins of a vast, fortified Arab Muslim medieval palace-city built by
Abd-ar-Rahman III al-Nasir. Built between 936-940 it was used for just a few short years as in 1010 it was sacked during
a civil war and then abandoned.
