Site No 175 - Little Henham Hall - Camping and Caravan Club Certified Site.

This little site on the Essex/Hertforshire border has been the start and finish to all but our first adventure. It is in the original tradition CS’s (or CL’s in the case of the Caravan Club) in that you are provided with peace and quiet together with a drinking water supply and grey and black water emptying points.

At Little Henham despite it’s proximity to Stansted Airport (the control tower can be seen across the fields from our usual pitch) and the M11 a couple of fields away to the east they are like well behaved children, often seen but rarely ever heard.

To access the site for the first time you should take careful note of Mrs M’s instructions as she really does know the best way in and although the final road up to the farm is quite narrow the biggest danger is to the local  wildlife - pheasants, grouse and little owls, who think they have far more right to the road than you.

There is lots to see and do in the area including AUDLEY END HOUSE and ASHDON VILLAGE MUSEUM as well as a number of good pub/restaurants, JAMIE OLIVER’s mum & dad run THE CRICKETERS in close by Clavering, in the kitchen of which Jamie started his cooking career. On our rare meals out we tend to go the THE FLEUR DE LYS in Widdington, if you are an energetic sort, just a twenty minute walk from the site through the woods. We of course go by car, still twenty minutes but much easier in the dark, and of course Sue doesn’t drink.
